Lock a Credit or Debit Card

If you’ve misplaced your credit or debit card, you can lock it through the City National Bank App® or City National Online®.

Locking a credit or debit card immediately “freezes” the card and prevents it from being used for new purchases. However, any recurring payments – such as bills and subscriptions – will continue to post to your account and won’t be disrupted.

Locking your card can be helpful in preventing fraudulent charges on a lost or stolen card. Plus, if you do find your card, you can simply unlock it and continue using it.

If you suspect unauthorized use of your card, call (800) 557-4262 immediately.

Lock a Card from the City National Bank App

  1. From the Account Summary screen, select the “Settings” tab.
  2. Select “Card Management.”
  3. Select the card you want to lock.
  4. Select the toggle to lock the card.
  5. Select “Confirm.”

To unlock the card, follow the steps above and select the toggle again. It will turn the Card Lock off. 


Lock a Card from a web browser

  1. Sign in to City National Online.
  2. Select “My Accounts."
  3. Under Check or Credit Cards, select “Lock and Unlock Card.”
  4. Select the toggle to lock the card.

To unlock the card, follow the steps above and select the toggle again. It will turn the Card Lock off.
