Anmol Malhotra Shares the Story Behind Sports

Anmol Malhotra is the head of sports partnerships for Snap, Inc., the company behind the enormously popular Snapchat app. His job? To help leagues, broadcasters, rights holders, teams and athletes tell their stories in fun, engaging ways.

A perfect example is the 2020 Masters Tournament. Spectators were not allowed because of COVID-19 protocols, but golf fans “attended” this iconic event through a Snapchat augmented reality lens.

“People thought I was driving down Magnolia Lane because it was that real,” says Malhotra, speaking of the famous road leading to the Augusta National Golf Club.

Senior Vice President of Sports and Entertainment Banking Todd Burach asked Malhotra how athletes can build their brands on Snapchat. City National works with more than 400 sports professionals and organizations.

Athletes “have unbelievably interesting lives off the court,” Malhotra says, and that's where Snapchat has the edge over traditional media. Fans get to discover the personality behind the sport.
