City National Will Commit $1 Million for Nation’s Largest Veteran Housing Community

Nov 12, 2019

LOS ANGELES – City National Bank, America’s Premier Private and Business Bank®, announced today that its Chief Executive Officer Kelly Coffey will join U.S.VETS, the nation’s largest veteran services nonprofit, in a new campaign to build the nation’s largest veterans housing community at the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs’ campus in West LA.

The bank also announced that it will commit $1 million to this landmark campaign.

“We’re proud to join in this important initiative that fulfills one of society’s most pressing needs — providing our nation’s heroes with a place to call home,” said Coffey. “Veterans have dedicated their lives to our country, so it’s our honor to help them build better ones. This partnership reflects City National’s long history of working to strengthen our communities.”

This new $10 million capital campaign, named “The Veterans Fund,” will help create a community for more than 1,800 veterans and their families, including 1,200 units of supportive housing and services, a career center, transit plaza, mental health and substance use treatment, kitchen, gardens, and athletic and social spaces. It will also offer services and programs to veterans across Los Angeles County.

Coffey has joined the Leadership Council of U.S.VETS, which includes UTA CEO Jeremy Zimmer, who will chair the project, and Shannon Gerber, executive director of The Home Depot Foundation, which serves as the campaign’s premier partner. Other members are Admiral Capital Group CEO, Basketball Hall of Famer and U.S. Navy veteran David Robinson; Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti; HBO Executive Vice President of Programming and U.S. Navy veteran Amy Gravitt; and Vice Chairman of NBCUniversal and Marine Corps veteran Ron Meyer.

City National celebrated the launch of “The Veterans Fund” campaign at the annual U.S.VETS Salute Gala on Nov. 5 at the Beverly Hilton.
