The Business of Latino Leadership: Nely Galán

At the November 2020 Business of Latino Leadership event, small business owners learned how becoming self-made isn't just a mindset — it's a mind shift.

The event, hosted by City National Bank and moderated by Sandy Nunez, coordinating producer at ESPN, featured media executive and entrepreneur Nely Galán, who speaks about how thinking like an owner can help transform pain into profit and forge a path forward during uncertain times.

About Nely Galán

Latina media dynamo and women's empowerment advocate Nely Galán is one of the entertainment industry's savviest firebrand talents.

An immigrant and self-made media mogul, Galán was the first Latina president of entertainment for U.S. television network Telemundo. She is an Emmy award-winning television producer, author of the New York Times bestselling book SELF MADE and founder of The Adelante Movement, which empowers and trains multicultural women economically and entrepreneurially.

Galán also took a mid-career sabbatical to complete a doctorate in clinical psychology, with a focus on money in multicultural communities.

Helping Small Businesses

During this pandemic, Galán has been helping small business owners of color by producing webinars that teach them how to properly fill out the forms to apply for federal and state loans and grants, help compile their financial paperwork and connect them with banks and fintech partners.

Galan did this in partnership with women of color from the U.S. Small Business Administration, where valuable information was brought to underserved communities.
