Frequently Asked Questions

General Householding Program Questions

General Program Questions

What is Householding?

A. Householding is the ability to combine the Points earned from multiple City National Visa® Consumer Credit Cards and Visa Commercial Credit Cards with City National Rewards® into one Rewards Account for redemption for awards. City National will automatically combine into a Household those Qualifying Cards that share the same Customer I.D. Number. See FAQ “What Cards will be included in a Household” for more information.

Which City National Bank products are eligible for Householding?

A. Clients who have City National Visa Credit Cards or Visa Commercial Credit Cards with City National Rewards are eligible for Householding.

What Cards will be included in a Household?

A. City National will automatically combine into a Household those Qualifying Cards that share the same Customer I.D. Number.  Qualifying Cards are those Cards that are issued under an account which is open and in good standing (i.e., not delinquent or otherwise unavailable for use) and which meets such other conditions as determined by CNB.  Customer I.D. Number refers to the unique identification number assigned to an account by CNB, which number is assigned to each Card issued under the account.  Accounts assigned the same tax identification number in CNB’s records will have the same Customer ID Number.

If you wish to develop a Household outside of the automatic Householding parameters, you may submit an application by visiting our Rewards program web site, cnb.com/rewards and clicking on the “Householding” link.

Can I link both my consumer and business cards to the same Rewards Account?

A. City National will automatically combine into a Household those Qualifying Cards that share the same Customer I.D. Number. Therefore, if your consumer and commercial credit cards share the same Customer I.D. Number, the Points earned on those Qualifying Cards will be combined into a Household automatically.

If your Cards do not share the same Customer I.D. Number, and you wish to develop a Household outside of the automatic Householding parameters, you may submit an application by visiting our Rewards program web site, cnb.com/rewards and clicking on the “Householding” link.

Is there a cost to Household my City National Visa Consumer Credit Cards and Visa Commercial Credit Cards into one Rewards Account?

A. No, there is no cost to Household your cards into one Rewards Account.

Who is eligible to redeem Points?

A. For Consumer Households, the Consumer Primary Cardholder , and any individual authorized as an Authorized Redeemer by the Consumer Primary Cardholder (up to a maximum of 3 Authorized Redeemers), can access, view, manage and redeem Points. The Consumer Primary Cardholder must complet and submit a City National Points Redemption Authorization Form to CNB to designate and appoint the Authorized Redeeemer.

For Business Households, except as otherwise indicated in Q.10 below, only an Authorized Redeemer can redeem Points.  A business may identify and authorize up to two (2) individuals as Authorized Redeemers to access, view, manage and redeem the Points by completing and submitting a City National Points Redemption Authorization Form located on our web site, www.cnb.com/rewards, under the “Householding" Link.

If Points are accumulated from a Household, including both consumer and business credit cards, only the business may redeem the Points.

Who is the Consumer Primary Cardholder and the Business Primary Cardholder?

A.  The Consumer Primary Cardholder means the individual(s) whose Card is designated as the Consumer Primary Card by CNB to be the Primary Card in the Household.

How can I remove my Card from a Household?

A. Contact Award Headquarters at (800) 411-0596 to request removal of your Card from a Household.  If your card is a Visa Commercial Credit Card, the removal of your Card is subject to the written approval of the business organization that is obligated on the associated Visa Commercial Credit Card account.

Why am I unable to redeem Points from my Household?

A. You will not be able to redeem Points if you are not the Consumer Primary Cardholder or an Authorized Redeemer. If you are a Visa Commercial Credit Card holder, only the Authorized Redeemer(s), as applicable, may redeem Points on behalf of the business organization’s Household. In addition, if you are unable to redeem Points from your Household, please confirm your account status to ensure your Card is not delinquent or otherwise not available for use. If you have questions about your Card status, please contact City National Bank at 800-773-7100.

Our business organization has a Visa Commercial Credit Card account under which Cards have been issued to our individual employees.  Can individual employees redeem the Points earned on their individual Cards?

A. With Visa Commercial Credit Cards under Householding, your business organization earns and has the right to redeem the Points earned on the Cards.  To redeem the Points, your business organization needs to identify and authorize up to two (2) individuals as Authorized Redeemers to access, view, manage and redeem the Points.  If your business organization would like to have the individual employee cardholders earn and redeem the Points on their individual Cards, you can elect to do so by completing and submitting the appropriate Redemption Authorization Form by visiting our Rewards program web site, www.cnb.com/rewards and clicking on the “Householding” link.   Points earned by individual employee cardholders will not be included in the Household.

My business organization has a Rewards Account with a total of 100,000 Points. The business was just sold and we want to close our accounts and all related Cards.  How long does the business have to redeem the Points?

A. If the Account is closed for any reason, any unredeemed Points remaining on the date of the Account closure are forfeited and expire. So, your business needs to redeem the Points before you close the Account.

Can I transfer miles/Points from non-City National Rewards programs over to my City National Rewards Account?
