Community Reinvestment and Economic Development Highlights
City National Bank is proud to invest in the communities where we work, live and conduct business. Contributing to the economic and cultural vitality of our communities not only has a positive, measurable impact on the growth and prosperity of those communities, but it makes good business sense for us as well.
Helping Communities Thrive – Small business and community development lending
We foster healthy communities by providing access to important financial services and products, including small business and community development lending, and equity investments in projects that strengthen local neighborhoods and support economic development in underserved communities.
City National has a natural franchise for small business lending, which helps spur local job creation. In fact, up to one-third of our small business loans (loans of $1 million or less) are provided to companies with annual revenues of less than $1 million.
Our community development lending is robust and growing, generally amounting to multi-million-dollar loans that (1) promote economic development, (2) provide community services targeted to low- or moderate-income (LMI) individuals, (3) revitalize and stabilize underserved geographies by expanding access to consumer goods and services, and (4) provide affordable housing.
Supporting Affordable Housing
Affordable housing is a key element of City National’s community investment program. The bank continually teams with for-profit and nonprofit developers to create affordable housing opportunities for LMI homebuyers and renters, and directly supports numerous organizations dedicated to developing affordable housing.
We are proud of our role in community investment and our long tradition of focused and effective philanthropy. We believe that we have a broader role to play in contributing to society and the various underpinnings that keep that society whole, healthy and sustainable. To that end, we partner with thousands of nonprofits annually to help address the critical social, economic and environmental needs of our communities through philanthropy, volunteerism and community investment.

|Community Reinvestment Act (CRA)
The Community Reinvestment Act (CRA) of 1977 encourages financial institutions to meet the credit needs of the communities where they operate. City National’s CRA strategy focuses on economic empowerment through small business development, job creation, affordable housing and financial education. The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency evaluates City National’s CRA performance every three years.
