City National Bank announced today it has been named by the National Diversity Council as a 2021 National Top Employer for Latino Leaders. The National Diversity Council is a nonprofit organization committed to advancing diversity and inclusion in workplaces and communities.
“Nearly a quarter of City National’s colleagues identify as Latino or Hispanic, including many leaders in senior positions and on our Executive Committee,” said City National Bank CEO Kelly Coffey. “We can only ever be as strong as the colleagues who make up our organization, and it is so meaningful to be recognized for the ways we support one another — not just our Latino colleagues, but all of our colleagues across the bank.”
This award recognizes organizations with an “extraordinary and unfailing commitment” to Latinos in the workplace and surrounding communities. Each honoree exemplifies an organizational culture that supports and leverages Latino colleagues for optimal success, as well as demonstrates dedication to the recruitment, development and retention of individuals from all populations.
“I am incredibly proud of our continued efforts around diversity, equity and inclusion, and the fact that we prioritize supporting and recognizing all of our diverse colleagues, clients and communities throughout the country,” added Coffey. “Fostering a work environment that welcomes and champions different points of view is more than a way to support our success — it’s the right thing to do.”
City National’s ongoing commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion includes programs and initiatives such as the following:
- An active roster of Colleague Resource Group (CRG) events with participation that has increased 150% during the pandemic as colleagues have sought authentic connections to one another and to their communities. Led by Karen A. Clark and Aretha Augustine, the bank’s CRGs saw a surge in membership and activity in 2020.
- A continued focus on training for the bank’s leaders on how to build high-performing and inclusive teams.
- An executive mentoring program to nurture the growth of mid-career Black colleagues, launched by the bank’s Executive Committee, which plans to roll out the program to other groups within the organization as well.
- A commitment to hiring more diverse colleagues at all levels. The bank has expanded its recruitment relationships to find new sources of diverse talent and is now working with 10 new partner organizations and 16 new universities that have more diverse graduates.
- An internal mobility concierge team and the “My CNB Career” portal, which offer colleagues one-on-one guidance and tools to help navigate their careers. The bank launched these initiatives to support inclusivity and individual career growth.
- A reimagined mentorship program, which is now housed on a digital platform that facilitates matchmaking between mentors and mentees.
This award comes on the heels of other accolades City National and Coffey have received for the bank’s diversity, equity and inclusion efforts, including Forbes magazine’s “2021 Best Employers for Women” and the Los Angeles Business Journal’s “2021 Diversity, Inclusion and Equity CEO of the Year.”
