Broadway shows come to life with countless hours of dedication, preparation and support. As the official bank of the Tony Awards, we're proud to support the entire Broadway community — from inspiration and ideation, to writing, producing, designing and performing.

We celebrate your contribution to bringing great stories to life.

The Regional Theatre Tony Award® Goes to...

Each year, the Tony Awards present the Regional Theatre Award, accompanied by a $25,000 grant from City National Bank, to an outstanding regional theater that displays a continuous and significant level of artistic achievement that contributes to the growth of theatre nationwide.

This year's recipient is TheatreWorks Silicon Valley of Palo Alto, California.

TheatreWorks is one of the nation's leaders in cultivating and producing new musicals and plays. They've produced more than 350 productions in the Bay Area, including works that have gone on to off-Broadway and Broadway productions. TheatreWorks will be honored at the 73rd annual Tony Awards on Sunday, June 9, at Radio City Music Hall.

WHERE ARE THEY NOW?

We caught up with two of the previous Regional Theatre Tony Award recipients to see how they've invested their grant money and what they're focusing on now. You'll be surprised and delighted to learn how Dallas Theater Center and Paper Mill Playhouse are using theater for the greater good.

Banking on Broadway

Every theatrical production needs a bank, even before it gets to Broadway. In fact, many of the major Broadway hits started with successful runs off Broadway or as theatrical workshops. And the time between a producer opening a bank account for a production and the show's opening night can range from a few months to several years.

Currently, City National provides banking services to half the shows on Broadway, including 11 Tony-nominated shows, accounting for 60 nominations. While serving as trusted advisors for producers is our primary role, we have great appreciation for both the management and the creative side of theater production.

Our Supporting Cast

Before a Broadway show ever earns a single nomination, the producers and creative teams have been working for months or years to get the production ready.

As a trusted advisor for half the shows on Broadway, we're also behind the scenes managing a full suite of financial products. We let the creators of the show do what they do best: hire directors, cast actors and design sets, while we manage the day-to-day banking, making life on Broadway just a little bit easier.

With more than 25 years of combined experience, City National's Theater Banking group brings an unmatched level of familiarity and knowledge to every production we support.
