How does SecureMail work?

What is SecureMail?

SecureMail uses encryption from leading identity-based encryption technology, offering a more secure way to communicate electronically. With SecureMail, there is no need to download any software.

Your sensitive information is protected and can only be read by you, giving you the confidence and assurance to communicate securely with City National Bank.

Setting up an account?

The first time you receive a secure message from City National, you will be asked to create a new account. This is to help prevent someone else from receiving and reading your secure messages.

After entering a user name, password and e-mail address, you will receive a confirmation e-mail from: securemail@cnb.com asking you to verify your account. Please remember to check your junk mail folder if you don't see it in you Inbox.

You will then be directed to open an attachment called message_zdm.html, this will confirm your account and allow you access to read your secure message.

Read my SecureMail?

To read your SecureMail, open the HTML attachment by double-clicking the file message_zdm.html. Click on the "Read Message" button on the webpage. You may at this point be required to select your e-mail address from a list.

To complete the process, you will next be asked to authenticate yourself in the required manner designated by the company you are communicating with. Upon completion of the authentication process, the secure e-mail will be displayed.

Access attachments sent to me?

All secure attachments are sent to allow easy access. To open the attached files, click on the [view] button next to the attachment names - a new window will open for you to access the attachment.

Reply to a SecureMail?

You have the option to reply back to the received secure e-mail. To do so:

  • Click the "Reply" button located at the top of the message to reply only to the sender of the message.
  • Next, a compose window will appear. click"Reply," and the sender's e-mail address will appear in the To: field.
  • Type your reply message. The original message is already included in the compose field.

Click "Send Secure" to send your reply.

Add an attachment to the SecureMail?

You have the option to add all types of attachments to your e-mail.

The compose page will display the maximum total attachment size permitted next to the Total Attachment Size field. The maximum number of attachments allowed on each secure e-mail is designated next to the Maximum Allowed Attachments field.

To add attachments to your secure e-mail:

  • Click the "Browse…" button located at the end of the Attach File field
  • Select a file and click the "Attach" button
  • Once the file has been uploaded, the compose page will be updated with the name of the file displayed underneath the Attach Field field.
  • To add additional attachments, repeat steps

Send a SecureMail Message

When you need to send City National an e-mail containing sensitive information, you can send us a Secure Message 24 hours a day, seven days a week. To send us a secure e-mail go to http://cnb.com/securemail.
