City National Bank announced today that the women of its Executive Committee have been named to American Banker’s 2021 list of “Most Powerful Women in Banking – Top Teams.” This marks the first time City National® has been recognized in the publication’s Top Teams list. Kelly Coffey, CEO of City National, was also recognized as an individual honoree in the publication’s “Most Powerful Women in Banking” list.

City National’s Top Teams honorees are six professionals who are critical to the bank’s success: Kelly Coffey; Martha Henderson, executive vice president of Entertainment Banking; Lindsay Dunn, executive vice president of Real Estate Banking; Linda Duncombe, executive vice president and chief marketing, product and digital officer; Verna Grayce Chao, executive vice president of Treasury Management Solutions; and Martha Tuma, executive vice president and chief colleague officer. Chosen for their excellence in performance and in promoting inclusiveness and fostering diverse representation of women, both in leadership roles and throughout the bank, these honorees constitute one of just five teams in the list.

“I am so honored to receive this recognition alongside a team of such talented and determined women,” Coffey said. “My colleagues at City National are an inspiration to me and should inspire any woman who wants to go into banking or leadership in any business.”

This is the second year Coffey has been named to the individual American Banker Most Powerful Women in Banking list. In past years, American Banker has also recognized Coffey in its 2019 “Women to Watch” list and multiple times in its “Most Powerful Women in Finance” list.

This accomplishment comes on the heels of City National’s recognition by Forbes magazine as one of the country’s “Best Employers for Women” in June. Earlier this year, Laura Dodd, vice president on City National’s Aerospace & Defense team, was also recognized by American Banker as one of 15 female leaders under 40 on its “Most Powerful Women in Banking: Next 2021” list.

These achievements underscore the bank’s deliberate efforts to promote a company culture that champions female talent and promotes diversity, equity and inclusion in the workplace. City National recognizes that these strides toward female empowerment are not just essential but timely: Whereas more than 2 million women have left the workplace nationwide amid the COVID-19 pandemic, City National has grown its female colleague base by nearly 2%. Currently, about half of the bank’s total colleagues are women.
