City National Bank Donates $100,000 to Broadway Cares / Equity Fights AIDS

Donors ultimately raised more than $1.2 million to provide lifesaving support to people across the country through record-breaking Quarantunes event

NEW YORK — City National Bank, America’s Premier Private and Business Bank®, today announced that it has donated $100,000 to Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS, one of the country’s leading industry-based, nonprofit AIDS fundraising and grant-making organizations. The donation was part of a “Quarantunes” virtual fundraising event on Oct. 18 featuring performances and appearances by more than two dozen Broadway artists.

“City National Bank has a long history of supporting and standing with the Broadway community – that is just as true now as it was before the pandemic, and it will be true long afterward,” said Rich McCune, senior vice president and East Coast regional team manager of City National’s Entertainment Banking team. “We are honored to be a longtime supporter of Broadway Cares, and to have played a role in this incredible Quarantunes event. The $1.2 million raised will provide lifesaving support to people in this community and across the country who are affected by HIV, COVID-19 and other illnesses. The event was truly a bright spot during a year that has brought so many challenges.”

McCune, along with Erik Piecuch, senior vice president and team leader on City National’s Entertainment Banking team, served on the event’s host committee. Quarantunes is a series of invite-only, exclusive Zoom concerts hosted by WME Partner Richard Weitz and his daughter Demi Weitz.

Every dollar donated to Broadway Cares during the event will go toward providing medication, healthy meals and emergency assistance for those across the country, including in the entertainment community, whose health and financial needs are heightened by the COVID-19 crisis.

City National’s $100,000 donation builds on the bank’s other major philanthropic commitments made during the pandemic. The bank announced in March the largest single donation in its history, $2 million, to organizations including Broadway Cares, SAG-AFTRA, United Way, International Medical Corps, Cedars-Sinai Medical Center and Save the Children to help communities, clients and colleagues deal with the challenges caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. The bank also made a philanthropic commitment to the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund and the Equal Justice Initiative earlier this year to join the fight for racial justice and equality in this country.

City National is the leading bank to Broadway, with deep roots in the New York entertainment community. Although most productions have been paused during the Broadway shutdown caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, the bank continues to stand by its clients and provide guidance and financial solutions during this unprecedented year. As part of this commitment, City National participated in the Small Business Association’s Paycheck Protection Program, helping clients get much-needed support and funding to help bridge the gap caused by COVID-19. City National secured nearly 6,000 PPP loans for entertainment clients totaling over $800 million.

The Los Angeles-based bank entered New York in 2002, primarily to serve entertainment and private banking clients, and has grown to serve entrepreneurs and their families, businesses, nonprofits and professional service firms throughout the region. The bank recently opened a new flagship financial center in the Hudson Yards neighborhood of Manhattan to better serve the growing community of businesses and affluent individuals in the developing area. City National now has five offices in Manhattan.
