John Pedersen is executive vice president and senior risk management officer of City National Bank and its publicly-held parent company, City National Corporation.

Mr. Pedersen oversees the corporation’s Risk Management Division, and is executive sponsor and chair of the company’s Risk Council, an advisory body to line and staff that helps senior management assess the adequacy and effectiveness of the corporation’s risk management culture. He also assists in the facilitation of the corporation’s Audit and Risk Committee, and is a member of the Executive Committee, Asset Liability Committee, Disclosure Committee, Capital Investment Committee, Credit Policy Committee, Senior Operations Risk Committee and the Problem Asset Review Committee, among others.

Mr. Pedersen, who serves as the company’s primary liaison with federal banking regulators, joined City National in October 2004, with two decades of financial services and regulatory experience.

Mr. Pedersen began his career in government with the Internal Revenue Service and held staff and management positions with the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency and the Office of Thrift Supervision. After government service, he managed a wide range of bank line and staff divisions including credit administration, problem resolution, and risk management for several financial institutions, including First Interstate Bancorp, KeyCorp and Bank of the West.

Immediately prior to joining City National, Mr. Pedersen was the Small Business Executive and Chief Risk Officer for Wachovia Small Business Capital.

Active in the community, Mr. Pedersen serves on the board of the Downtown Ketchum YMCA of Greater Los Angeles. Additionally, he is involved with various philanthropic organizations which facilitate the micro-financing of small business entrepreneurs within developing countries.

Mr. Pedersen earned a bachelor’s degree in finance and accounting from the University of Oklahoma in Norman, Oklahoma. Married, he and his family reside in Los Angeles and Sacramento.
