Griego Enterprises, Inc.
Linda Griego is president and chief executive officer of Griego Enterprises Inc., a business management company that she founded in 1986. She oversees operations of Engine Co. No. 28, a prominent restaurant in downtown Los Angeles, and Oso Ranch and Lodge in northern New Mexico.
From 1990 until 2000, Ms. Griego held a number of government-related appointments, including deputy mayor of the city of Los Angeles, president and chief executive officer of the Los Angeles Community Development Bank, and president and chief executive offer of Rebuild LA, the agency created to jump-start inner city economic development following the 1992 Los Angeles civil unrest. Ms. Griego also served as special advisor to the late U.S. Secretary of Commerce Ron Brown on economic development in Southern California. She was also a candidate for mayor of Los Angeles in 1993.
Ms. Griego serves on the boards of directors of four publicly traded companies: City National Corporation, CBS Corporation, AECOM Technology, and Southwest Water Company. She has served two terms as a Los Angeles director of the Federal Reserve Bank of San Francisco. From 1993 until 2000, she also served on the board of directors of First Interstate Bank and later Tokai Bank of California. Appointed by President Bill Clinton in 1995, Ms. Griego served for five years on the NAFTA’s North American Development Bank Community Adjustment Committee (under the auspices of the U.S. Treasury). She previously served on the board of directors of publicly trade companies: Granite Construction, Inc. and Blockbuster, Inc.
Ms. Griego has been a member of the board of trustees of the David and Lucile Packard Foundation since 2006. From 1995 until 2008, she served as a trustee of the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation, the largest private health philanthropy in the United States. Ms. Griego currently serves on the board of directors of the Public Policy Institute of California and the YMCA of Metropolitan Los Angeles. She is a member of the Council of Foreign Relations and is a director of the World Affairs Council. She was a founding member of the Pacific Council on International Policy and served on the board of directors of Cedars-Sinai Medical Center from 2003 until 2007.
Over the past two decades, she has served on a number of government commissions and boards of directors including the California Community Colleges Board, the Community Redevelopment Agency, Los Angeles City Charter Reform Commission and the Los Angeles Cultural Affairs Commission.
Ms Griego has been honored as a civic leader by the City of Hope (Woman of the Year), UCLA, CORO Foundation, California State University at Los Angeles, the YWCA of Greater Los Angeles, the San Francisco Hispanic Foundation, InRoads/Los Angeles, San Gabriel Boys Scouts of America, the Los Angeles Business Council and the Los Angeles Chamber of Commerce.
Ms. Griego earned a bachelor’s degree in history from UCLA in 1975 and was a senior fellow of the UCLA School of Public Policy.
